Question: I want to open a small dairy comprising of 10 cows. Do I need to obtain a license? if yes, how?
Answer: Registration is required if the production capacity of the dairy unit is Upto 500 LPD of milk or upto 2.5 MT of milk solids per annum.
State License – 501 to 50,000 LPD of milk or more than 2.5 MT to 2500 MT of milk solids per annum.
Central License – More than 50,000 litres of liquid milk/day or 2500 MT of milk solid per annum.
Question: I have food licence till 2017 but I don’t know the exact date how would I know the renewal date of license.
Answer: Usually, the validity date on the license is mentioned in DD/MM/YYYY. If it is not available then, you can look for the date of issue/renewal on the copy of your license and then calculate the date of renewal of the license. Just remember one thing that you have to apply for the renewal of the license prior to 30 days from the date of expiry of your respective license.
Question: I am about to start a business of spices in different states and as it is just the beginning, and if the turnover would be less than 12 lacs for the first year then what certificates I have to ensure before starting it?
Answer: If you are expecting that your annual turnover will not exceed Rs. 12 lacs then you can apply for the Registration Certificate. If in case, you are expecting your annual turnover to cross Rs. 12 lacs then you must apply for the license. If you intend to set up a processing unit for spices then instead of annual turnover the production capacity will be taken into consideration. For a production capacity of Upto 100 Ltr /Kg per day, a registration certificate is required to be taken and if in case the production capacity is More than 100kg/Itr to 2 MT /day, a license will have to be acquired. You may also have to acquire a central license for Head Office if in case you have your business operations in more than one state.
Question: I want to start a Dairy unit with 30 animals at Faridabad Haryana. Is it necessary to register this dairy unit with FSSAI ?
Answer: As per FSS (Licensing & Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011:
You are eligible for Registration Certificate, if the production capacity of the dairy unit is Upto 500 LPD of milk or Upto 2.5 MT of milk solids per annum.
State License – 501 to 50,000 LPD of milk or more than 2.5 MT to 2500 MT of milk solids per annum.
Central License – More than 50,000 litres of liquid milk/day or 2500 MT of milk solid per annum.
Question: I want to know about the charge of the License in Delhi for opening a Restro & Bar.
Answer: Rs. 2000.
Question: I want to start masala pouch so I want to know I just put it logo on pouch or I want to register for that at any gov. website. Do, I have to get my produce tested at any lab?

At the time of applying for a license, an analysis report (Chemical & Bacteriological) of water to be used as ingredient from a recognized laboratory needs to be submitted.
Also, as per one of the conditions of the license, the regulations state;
Ensure testing of relevant chemical and/or microbiological contaminants in food products in accordance with these regulations as frequently as required on the basis of historical data and risk assessment to ensure production and delivery of safe food through own or NABL accredited /FSSA notified labs at least once in six months.
