மங்கலம்பேட்டை குளிர்பான ஏஜன்சிகள் மற்றும் டாஸ்மாக் பாரில் மருத்துவக் குழுவினர் ஆய்வு செய்தனர். நெய்வேலி அடுத்த சேப்ளாநத்தம் காலனியைச் சேர்ந்தவர் அஞ்சாபுலி மகள் அபிராமி (8). கடந்த சில நாட்களுக்கு முன் குளிர்பானம் குடித்து இறந்தார். அதனைத்தொடர்ந்து, மாவட்டம் முழுவதும் உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அதிகாரிகள் தீவிர சோதனை செய்து காலாவதியான குளிர்பானங்களை கைப்பற்றி அழித்து வருகின்றனர்.
மங்கலம்பேட்டை பகுதியில் வட்டார மருத்துவ அலுவலர் வளர்மதி தலைமையில், சுகாதார மேற்பார்வையாளர் சக்கரை, சுகாதார ஆய்வாளர்கள் வீரமணி, செல்வராஜ், நாட்டுத்துரை, குழந்தைவேலு, பழனிவேலு, கனகரத்தினம், ஜோதிலட்சுமி ஆகியோர் கொண்ட குழுவினர் நேற்று திடீர் சோதனை செய்தனர். அப்போது, மங்கலம்பேட்டை கடைவீதியில் உள்ள குளிர்பான மொத்த விற்பனை ஏஜன்சிகள், உளுந்தூர்பேட்டை சாலையில் உள்ள டாஸ்மாக் பார் போன்றவற்றில் விற்பனைக்கு வைத்திருந்த குளிர்பான பாட்டில்களை சோதனை செய்தனர்.
தொடர்ந்து, காலாவதியான, தரமற்ற குளிர்பானங்கள் விற்பனை செய்வோர் மீது குற்றவியல் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும் என எச்சரித்தனர்.

கடலூரில் உள்ள பல்பொருள் அங்காடியில் உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அதிகாரி ராஜா சோதனை மேற்கொண்டார்.

தொழில் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு ‘தட்கல் உரிமம்’தரம்… இனி நிரந்தரம்! ண முத்திரை பெற காத்திருக்க வேண்டாம்

கோவை :

தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் விரைவில் தர முத்திரை உரிமம் பெறுவதற்கு உதவும் வகையில், ‘தட்கல் உரிமம்’ என்ற புதிய திட்டத்தை இந்திய தர நிர்ணய அமைவனம்(பி.ஐ.எஸ்.,) நேற்று முதல் அறிமுகப்படுத்தியுள்ளது.
டில்லியை தலைமையிடமாக கொண்டு செயல்படுகிறது இந்திய தர நிர்ணய அமைவனம்(பி.ஐ.எஸ்.,). பொருட்களின் தரத்தை உறுதிப்படுத்தும் வகையில் பிரத்யேக தர முத்திரை உரிமங்கள், பல கட்ட சோதனைகளுக்கு பின் வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.
தர முத்திரை உரிமம் பெற்ற நிறுவனங்கள் குறித்த காலகட்டத்தில் மீண்டும் உரிமத்தை புதுப்பிப்பதை உறுதிபடுத்துதல், தரம் இல்லை என கண்டறிந்தால் உரிமத்தை ரத்து செய்தல், போலியாக தர முத்திரை பயன்படுத்தும் நிறுவனங்கள் மீது சட்ட ரீதியான நடவடிக்கை மேற்கொள்தல் உள்ளிட்ட நடவடிக்கைகளை பி.ஐ.எஸ்., மேற்கொண்டு வருகிறது.
நாடு முழுவதும், 1,000 பொருட்களுக்கு தர முத்திரை உரிமங்கள் வழங்கப்படுகின்றன. இதில், மக்கள் நலன் கருதி குடிநீர், ஸ்டீல் உள்ளிட்ட 80 பொருட்களுக்கு கட்டாயம் பி.ஐ.எஸ்., உரிமம் பெற வேண்டும் என, மத்திய அரசு அறிவித்துள்ளது.
கோவையில் 1989ல் பி.ஐ.எஸ்., கோவை கிளை அலுவலகம் துவக்கப்பட்டது. கோவை, திருப்பூர், ஈரோடு, நீலகிரி உள்ளிட்ட மண்டலங்களில் செயல்படும் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு தர முத்திரைகள் பயன்படுத்துவதற்கான உரிமங்கள் வழங்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.
தர முத்திரை பெறும் தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் விரைவில் உரிமம் பெற உதவும் வகையில் பி.ஐ.எஸ்., அலுவலகத்தில் நேற்று முதல் ‘தட்கல்’ திட்டம் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. வழக்கமாக, உரிமம் பெற மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் அனைத்து செயல்பாடுகளையும் உள்ளடக்கியுள்ள இத்திட்டத்தில், உரிமங்கள் விரைவாக வழங்கப்படும்; இருமடங்கு கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கப்படும். தங்களது பொருட்களுக்கு விரைவில் தர நிர்ணய உரிமம் பெற விரும்பும் தொழில் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு இத்திட்டம் மிகவும் பயனுள்ளதாக இருக்கும்.
பிரத்யேக திட்டம்: பி.ஐ.எஸ்., கோவை கிளை தலைமை விஞ்ஞானி சதாசிவம் கூறுகையில்,
”தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் விரைவில் தர முத்திரை உரிமங்களை பெறும் நோக்கில் ‘தட்கல் உரிமம் திட்டம்’ நாடு முழுவதும் இன்று(நேற்று) முதல் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.
”உரிமங்கள் மிக விரைவில் வழங்கப்படுவது இத்திட்டத்தின் சிறப்பம்சம். மக்கள் நலன் கருதி உரிமம் பெறுதல் கட்டாயமாக்கப்பட்டுள்ள பொருட்களை உற்பத்தி செய்யும் நிறுவனங்களுக்காக பிரத்யேகமாக வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது,” என்றார்.
இத்திட்டத்தை பயன்படுத்த விரும்பும் தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் கோவை பாலசுந்தரம் ரோடு, கோவை டவர்ஸ் வளாகத்திலுள்ள பி.ஐ.எஸ்., கோவை கிளை அலுவலகத்தை நேரிலோ அல்லது 0422- 224 8892, 224 1016, 224 0141 உள்ளிட்ட எண்களிலோ தொடர்பு கொள்ளலாம்.

சாதாரண முறையில், தர முத்திரை உரிமம் பெற விண்ணப்பிக்கும் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு, பல கட்ட பரிசோதனை மற்றும் ஆய்வுகளுக்கு பின் உரிமம் வழங்கப்படும். புதியதாக அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ள பிரத்யேக திட்டத்தில், அதிகபட்சமாக 30 நாட்களில் உரிமம் பெறலாம். சாதாரண முறையில் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் அனைத்து தர பரிசோதனைகளும் புதிய திட்டத்தில் விரைவில் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும். நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்ட நாட்களுக்குள் தொழில் நிறுவனங்கள் உரிமம் பெறுவதை உறுதிப்படுத்தும் பணியில் பி.ஐ.எஸ்., அதிகாரிகள் ஈடுபடுவர். ஏதேனும் புகார்கள் இருப்பின் பி.ஐ.எஸ்., கிளை அலுவலக தலைமை விஞ்ஞானியிடம் நேரில் புகார் தெரிவிக்கலாம்.

No charge sheet filed against Kanwal, Khyber, AVON

                               Govt shields leading Food processing companies

Srinagar, Feb 17:

State Government is shielding the leading Food Processing Companies whose products have been found adulterated with carcinogenic chemicals as no charge sheets have been filed against them since December last year.

The Food Safety Officer, Anantnag, Ghulam Qadir, his counterpart in Budgam, Shugufta, and Health Officer Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr Shafaqat Khan, have not filed charge sheets in the court of law against AVON Agro Industries Pvt Ltd Delhi, Khyber Agro Farms and M/s Kanwal Agro Food Industries Anantnag respectively.
The turmeric of AVON Agro Industries Pvt Ltd Delhi, toned Milk of Khyber Agro Farms and Sounf powder of M/s Kanwal Agro Food Industries Anantnag was found adulterated by the Central Food Laboratory Kolkata whose reports came in November and December last year.
The Central Food Laboratory Kolkata report about turmeric powder manufactured by AVON Agro Industries Pvt Ltd Delhi said that it contained Tartrazine adulteration.
The Central Food Laboratory Kolkata report about the Khyber Milk states that besides containing detergent, the sample has failed to conform to various other standards stipulated under laws and regulations.
The Central Food Laboratory Kolkata about Sounf powder manufactured by M/s Kanwal Agro Food Industries Anantnag found it unsafe and misbranded, containing added colouring matter – Carmoisine and Tartrazine.
The sanction for the filing of charge sheet against these companies from Government is still pending despite a report by the Director SKIMS, Shoukat Ahmad Zargar, saying that colouring agents and other material found in the spices and the toned milk are carcinogenic, can damage various body organs and cause heart diseases.
The Food Safety Officer Anantnag told Excelsior: “I have sent the case to Secretariat for prosecution of AVON Agro Industries Pvt Ltd Delhi whose turmeric powder was found adulterated. The company will be charge sheeted under Food Safety Standards Act 2006. I am waiting for the sanction.”
The Food Safety Officer Budgam told Excelsior: “I am waiting for sanction from my higher ups for filing a charge sheet against Khyber Agro Farms whose milk was found adulterated.”
The Health Officer SMC said: “We have referred the matter for sanction under Section 42 of the Food Safety Standards Act 2006 to Commissioner Food Safety Jammu and Kashmir. Once we get sanction we will file charge sheet against M/s Kanwal Agro Food Industries Anantnag whose Sounf powder was found adulterated.”
Sources said that Government is shielding these Food Processing Companies despite Jammu and Kashmir High Court penalizing them. The Court ordered these companies to deposit Rs 60 crore with the Director SKIMS for damaging the health of people.

High Sugar, Calories In Packaged Drinks : Study

                                                              Why fruit juice isn’t better than cola

                                                                                  How many times have you settled for a packaged fruit drink instead of a fizzy cola for health reasons? Turns out that the fruit drink contains the same amounts of sugar and calories as the cola.

                                                                                  Researchers from the University of Glasgow’s Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences observed that high intake of fruit juices can lead to an increased risk of diabetes. The team pointed out that most packaged fruit juices had an energy density and sugar content similar to other sugary drinks and called for a more comprehensive labelling of fruit juice cartons. Researchers compared 250ml of a packaged fruit drink and a fizzy cola and found that while one serving of apple juice typically contained 110 kcal and 26g of sugar, a serving of cola contains 105 kcal and 26.5g of sugar.

                                                                         While similar studies have not been carried out in Chennai, diabetologists and nutritionists in the city agree that the observations are true in the case of packaged fruit drinks here. They could spell danger for diabetics and pre-diabetics. A study sponsored by the Indian Council of Medical Research found 62 million people across the country were diabetic, and 77 million were pre-diabetic. 

                                                                             Dr Vijay Viswanathan, senior diabetologist at MV Diabetes Research Centre, said that many packaged juices increase the risk of diabetes if consumed in excess. “Each carton contains concentrated sugar and simple carbohydrates which when consumed, especially after a meal, makes the blood sugar peak. We advise diabetics never to drink fruit juices and go for the whole fruit instead,” he said.

                                                                              The 26g sugar in each serving of fruit juice means the person is taking five tablespoons of sugar, points out nutritionist Meenakshi Bajaj, Tamil Nadu Government Multi-Super Specialty Hospital. “Those who need instant energy can drink a lot of fruit juice, but diabetics should avoid it. Summer is here and people tend to gulp packaged fruit juice when they are thirsty,” she said. She added that consuming sugar-rich juice could lead to acute glucose toxicity which may result in damaging the liver, eyes and kidneys in the long run.

                                                                                       Senior diabetologist Dr Anand Moses warned that packaged fruit juices also contained preservatives apart from added sugar. “It is always better to eat whole fruits and vegetables to absorb the goodness. Moreover, people should read the label of the juice packs so they can make an informed choice,” he said.

Call to Explore ‘Nutraceutical’ Property of Indian Spices

                                                                                Apart from traditional sectors, the ‘nutraceutical’ and medicinal properties of spices should be explored, said J S Deepak, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He was delivering the inaugural address at the 12th World Spice Congress (WSC) 2014, here on Sunday. He said processed, packaged and branded spice products should be exported from the country more.

“The government wants the next World Spice Congress to be held in a global platform wherein we will seek active participation from global spice associations from other spice producing countries like the Sri Lanka. India exports only 10 per cent of the total production of spices, yet we hold a business share of 45 per cent in the global spice market. This clearly indicates the magnitude of the opportunity and for this value added products are the key,” he said. While mentioning the importance of maintaining quality standards, Deepak said the private sector can play a role in this regard.

“Once the harmonisation of global quality standards for spices and culinary herbs as envisaged by Codex Committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs (CCSCH) becomes a reality, India has a better chance in the global market. This in turn is expected to facilitate international spice trade through better transparency. The government expects that this will come into effect soon,” he said.

CCSCH was set up by Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the influential body that sets global food standards. Deepak further said spices are not only a business but it affects the livelihood of many people in the country. Hence the government is committed to extend its full hearted support to the sector. Spices Board chairman A Jayathilak said the World Spice Congress looks forward to threadbare deliberations setting up a momentum for action to raise food safety and maintain sustainability.

“The congress will set up a forum for discussion on crops, markets and recent trends in this industry. The event will explore methods that can be implemented practically. The Spice Congress is an opportunity for the global community to come together,” he said.

All India Spice Exporters’ Forum chairman Geemon K Korah spoke. Over 700 delegates from 40 countries are participating in the congress, which will conclude on February 19.
