4 food-items from Myanmar banned

Imphal: Four packaged food items imported from Myanmar including Pickles, which are being sold without labeling, import license as well as without indicating the name of Manufacturer, Batch Number and date of expiry, have been banned in Manipur with immediate effect.
The order to this effect was issued by Ram Muivah, Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, who is also in charge of Commissioner of Food Safety, Government of Manipur on February 2, 2013 .
The names of the banned packaged food items from Myanmar are Mikko Nutritious Cereal (High Calcium)-25kg, Mikko (3 in 1 Instant Coffeemix), Snacks (Bakery items) and Milk & Milk Product and Pickles/Achar items Fruit & Fishes).
These packaged foods have been reportedly imported into the State in violation of Section 23 & 25 of Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006 and Regulation No.22 of Food Safety and Standards (Packaging & Labeling) Regulation, 2011.Accordingly, import of the said packaged food items from Myanmar and selling them in Manipur has been banned with immediate effect, the order said.
Violation of the order shall be liable for punishment and fine as per the provisions of the Act, it added.
